From Data to Decisions
At this year’s Inspire 2025 event, Walmart Data Ventures unveiled the next evolution of Scintilla, its data and insights ecosystem built to help suppliers turn information into measurable business results. What began as a bridge between Walmart’s first-party data and supplier strategy has matured into one of the retail industry’s most comprehensive intelligence platforms, reshaping how decisions are made in real time.
Scintilla, formerly known as Luminate, now anchors Walmart’s effort to make data actionable for every supplier. The company describes it as a way to move from knowing to doing, connecting first-party data with analytics tools that enable faster, more confident decisions across assortment, pricing, replenishment, and marketing.
Turning Information Into Advantage
Mark Hardy, Senior Vice President of Walmart Data Ventures, told attendees that Scintilla’s progress represents more than a technical upgrade. It marks a cultural shift toward helping every supplier compete with the speed and precision of world-class retailers.
“Data by itself doesn’t create value,” Hardy said. “It’s what we do with it that drives growth. Our goal is to help suppliers interpret insights in context and act with confidence.”
That philosophy is now visible throughout Walmart’s ecosystem. Scintilla’s dashboards and AI-assisted features translate complex data into clear recommendations, allowing supplier teams to focus on action rather than analysis. By simplifying access to insights, Walmart aims to help partners of all sizes make faster, smarter decisions that align with customer needs.
The Rise of the Customer Spark Community
One of the platform’s fastest-growing assets is the Customer Spark Community, a verified network of Walmart shoppers who share opinions, test new ideas, and participate in supplier research. Over the past year, participation has expanded rapidly, giving suppliers direct access to real feedback from real customers.
Unlike third-party survey panels, Spark responses are authenticated against Walmart shopper data, ensuring that insights reflect the brand’s true customer base. This reliability has become especially valuable for teams testing packaging, messaging, or product concepts before national rollout.
For suppliers, the Spark Community represents a more efficient way to validate innovation. It reduces uncertainty, shortens development timelines, and creates a continuous feedback loop between customers and creators.
AI-Powered Insights and a Faster Research Experience
Scintilla’s newest capabilities reflect Walmart’s growing use of artificial intelligence to accelerate insight generation. A new AI-driven summarization tool can automatically identify key findings from open-ended survey responses, highlighting the themes that matter most. Another feature acts as an intelligent guide, helping users see how individual metrics connect to sales performance and operational efficiency.
This technology does not replace human analysts. It amplifies their impact. By eliminating repetitive data work, AI allows category, supply-chain, and marketing teams to concentrate on interpretation and strategy. The result is a faster path from discovery to decision.
Scintilla’s Expanding Reach
Walmart Data Ventures has also expanded Scintilla BI Link, which lets suppliers pull Walmart data directly into their own analytics platforms. New data elements include in-stock percent, inventory feeds, product content quality scores, and eCommerce return metrics.
BI Link now mirrors about 90 percent of the data available through Scintilla’s API feeds, offering suppliers near real-time access to operational and performance insights. This alignment across in-store and online channels gives suppliers a single view of their Walmart business, improving demand forecasting, fulfillment planning, and item-level performance tracking.
Building Stronger Partnerships Through Data
Walmart’s continued investment in Scintilla demonstrates a clear commitment to transparency and collaboration with its supplier community. Instead of keeping data behind corporate walls, Walmart is sharing insights in ways that encourage joint problem-solving.
For new and emerging suppliers, this accessibility is especially meaningful. Scintilla levels the playing field by offering smaller brands the same depth of intelligence long available to enterprise partners. The more suppliers adopt these tools, the more aligned Walmart’s overall ecosystem becomes, fueling growth on both sides of the table.
A Glimpse Into the Future of Retail Intelligence
The evolution of Scintilla signals a broader redefinition of what intelligence means in retail. Data is no longer static reporting. It has become a living system that connects customer sentiment, inventory movement, and supplier action in real time.
Walmart’s leaders see this as a foundation for the next era of retail agility. By creating a shared environment for insights, Walmart is positioning Scintilla as both a catalyst for innovation and a connector across the value chain, from the store floor to the supplier’s dashboard.
As Hardy summarized at Inspire 2025, “The future of retail will be defined by how fast we can turn information into action. Scintilla is how we make that future possible for everyone who does business with Walmart.”
Looking Ahead
For Walmart suppliers and sellers, the message is unmistakable. Competitive advantage now depends on how effectively teams can interpret and apply data. Scintilla is becoming the standard for doing exactly that, helping brands of every size identify opportunities, respond to trends, and align their strategies with Walmart’s omnichannel vision.
Walmart Data Ventures is not simply sharing data. It is equipping suppliers to build the next generation of insight-driven retail, where every decision begins with understanding and ends with measurable growth.
