As of December 15, 2025, all Marketplace sellers in good standing may apply to sell Pre-Owned items through the Exclusive Programs page in Seller Center. Previously, access to Walmart’s resale initiatives was limited, with most refurbished and used product activity tightly controlled through invitations.
The Resold program, which focuses on professionally refurbished products under defined condition tiers, remains invite-only. Sellers interested in that program must still apply through Seller Center and receive an invitation before listing Resold items.
This change expands access to resale while preserving stricter controls over refurbished electronics and other higher-risk categories.
Pre-Owned is the broader entry point. Approved sellers may list eligible used items that meet Walmart’s Marketplace policies and product eligibility requirements.
The Resold program is a more structured initiative designed for refurbished products that meet detailed technical, cosmetic, and data security standards. Resold items are assigned condition types during item setup, such as Restored: Premium, Like New, Good, or Fair. Available conditions depend on product category and applicable regulatory requirements.
Approval to sell Pre-Owned items does not guarantee access to the Resold program.
To participate in either resale pathway, sellers must remain in good standing and consistently meet Walmart’s Seller Performance Standards. All approved sellers must comply with the Walmart Marketplace Retailer Agreement, applicable category policies, and Walmart’s Returns Policy.
The Resold program strictly prohibits counterfeit items. Violations may result in account suspension or termination.
Walmart sets detailed requirements for resold items, particularly for electronics and connected devices.
Across all eligible products, sellers must:
Additional category-specific requirements apply:
If a product category or condition is not available during item setup, the item is not eligible for resale on Walmart.com.
Walmart Fulfillment Services items are eligible for the Resold program. Sellers use the original GTIN for setup, while Walmart generates a separate fulfillment GTIN to track the item through its network.
International sellers may participate, provided they meet all eligibility and compliance requirements.
Returns follow Walmart’s existing Marketplace process. Restored: Like New, Good, and Fair items require a 90-day return window. Restored: Premium items typically follow a 30-day return period unless otherwise restricted by category rules.
Only Restored: Premium items require a warranty unless a warranty is required by law. Sellers must clearly disclose whether a warranty is included. If a seller fails to honor a disclosed warranty and Walmart issues a refund to the customer, the seller bears the associated costs.
Walmart recommends pricing resold items below their new equivalents and following established resale pricing standards.
All resold items are subject to Buy Box ineligibility rules. Walmart may remove Pre-Owned, Restored, or Open Box items from Buy Box eligibility if their price exceeds that of a new item on the same product page. Limited exceptions may apply for certain categories, including collectibles and select luxury brands.
This makes transparent pricing and clear value positioning especially important for resale listings.
Opening Pre-Owned applications to all Marketplace sellers reflects Walmart’s continued investment in resale while maintaining strong customer trust standards.
For Marketplace sellers, this creates an opportunity to recover value from returns, refurbished inventory, and used products, provided operational and compliance requirements can be met.
For suppliers and brands that operate Marketplace storefronts or manage secondary inventory channels, this update reinforces Walmart’s expectations around quality, data security, and resale economics. Resale can complement primary assortment strategies, but only when executed with discipline and transparency.
Before applying to sell Pre-Owned items, sellers should evaluate whether their operations can support:
Walmart has expanded access to resale, but approval is not automatic and ongoing compliance is required.
Walmart’s Pre-Owned expansion signals that resale is becoming a permanent and more accessible part of the Marketplace ecosystem. Sellers who approach this opportunity with strong operational controls and a clear understanding of Walmart’s requirements will be best positioned to benefit as resale continues to grow on Walmart.com.
