Walmart Opens Better Care Services to GLP-1 Users Ahead of July Medicare Bridge

Walmart announced on April 16 that it is expanding Better Care Services, the digital health platform it launched in January, to include weight management offerings for customers on or exploring GLP-1 therapies. The platform now connects shoppers to five third-party providers: Aaptiv for fitness programming, Berry Street for registered-dietitian services, Curai Health for AI-supported coaching, MyCare by Twin Health for metabolic insights, and Wheel for telehealth prescribing and ongoing care. Prescription fulfillment runs through Walmart’s nearly 4,600 pharmacies, with integrations including Eli Lilly’s LillyDirect, according to Walmart’s press release.

The expansion is not Walmart’s first public signal on GLP-1s. John Furner, CEO of Walmart U.S., told Bloomberg in October 2023 that customers picking up GLP-1 prescriptions from Walmart pharmacies were buying less food overall and fewer calories per basket. That pharmacy-data observation, made more than two years before Better Care Services existed, is the commercial backdrop to the April announcement.

The same announcement confirmed that Walmart will offer newly approved oral GLP-1 options, including Foundayo (orforglipron), through insurance or cash-pay pricing. Same-day pharmacy delivery, free for Walmart+ members in eligible markets, is part of the fulfillment pitch. Kevin Host, Walmart’s senior vice president of pharmacy, said in the company’s release that weight management is difficult for patients to navigate across care, medication, and lifestyle, and that the platform is intended to bring those elements together.

The five providers each occupy a different part of the journey

Aaptiv delivers fitness content, including more than 10,000 expert-led classes and GLP-1 companion programming. Berry Street pairs customers with registered dietitians through a combination of AI and a nationwide network, with services often covered by insurance. Curai Health offers an AI-supported, self-guided care experience that includes virtual dietitian services; its Weight Loss GLP-1 AI agent is free to Walmart customers from April 15 through July 31, then $29 per month beginning August 1. MyCare by Twin Health tracks how food, sleep, and activity affect GLP-1 users and pairs those insights with a clinical care team. Wheel provides telehealth visits with board-certified obesity-medicine providers, with initial visits starting at $99 and check-ins at $35, and no subscription requirement.

Axios, which interviewed Host exclusively, reported that Walmart will stock only FDA-approved GLP-1 products and not compounded versions. Axios also reported that pricing across the platform ranges from free promotions to roughly $29 per month for virtual care programs up to $99 per visit for telehealth consultations, with some services covered by insurance.

The pharmacy footprint is what separates Walmart’s approach

Better Care Services connects customers to third-party providers, but prescription fulfillment and medication access run through Walmart Pharmacy. That includes integrations with LillyDirect, Eli Lilly’s home-delivery program for its obesity, diabetes, and migraine medications. Customers can fill prescriptions in store, through digital pharmacy tools, or via pickup and delivery. Same-day pharmacy delivery is currently live in Arkansas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wisconsin, according to Drug Store News.

The retail pharmacy footprint is the piece of the offering that telehealth-first competitors cannot easily replicate. Axios reported that Walmart is positioning itself to own what it calls the “last mile” of the GLP-1 category. Companies including Weight Watchers, Noom, and Hims & Hers have been building GLP-1 programs of their own, but none operate a nationwide retail pharmacy network.

Two additional surfaces launched alongside the provider lineup

Walmart also launched a redesigned GLP-1 digital destination on Walmart.com. According to Healthcare Dive, that destination advertises both GLP-1 medications that customers can fill at a Walmart pharmacy and other products the retailer sells, including vitamins and supplements.

Better Care Services now also connects customers to Nutrition Hub, which runs on Walmart Everyday Health Signals and delivers personalized food and recipe recommendations. Nutrition Hub is currently available to eligible Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members, per Walmart’s release.

The July Medicare Bridge is the next piece on the calendar

Beginning in July 2026, eligible Medicare Part D beneficiaries will be able to access certain GLP-1 medications through a short-term demonstration known as the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. The program will expand access to a cohort that has largely been priced out of GLP-1 therapy. Healthcare Dive reported that GLP-1 list prices can exceed a thousand dollars a month, and that cost has been a primary reason patients avoid or discontinue the drugs. Host told Axios that the Bridge demonstration could bring millions of additional patients into the market.

The cohort behind the expansion

GLP-1 adoption has roughly doubled in the past eighteen months. According to a Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index reading reported by FoodNavigator-USA, 12.4 percent of American adults were taking semaglutide or tirzepatide for weight loss as of late 2025, up from 5.8 percent in February 2024. The same survey tracked a decline in the U.S. obesity rate from 39.9 percent three years earlier to 37 percent. Walmart’s release cites CDC data that more than 40 percent of U.S. adults live with obesity. Research from The Hartman Group, reported by FoodNavigator-USA, puts the current GLP-1 user base at roughly 31 million adults, with an addressable population of about 137 million.

Better Care Services launched in January 2026 as a one-stop hub for third-party telehealth, including urgent care and behavioral health. The April expansion is the first major addition since launch. Walmart has said it plans to continue expanding Better Care Services by adding providers and services over time.
